The Mouse Guard Roleplaying Game beat out the popular and much-favored Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition by Wizards of the Coast, as well as Pelgrane Press’ The Trail of Cthulhu for the “Best RPG of 2008” award. The win joins Archaia’s Artesia, designed by Archaia Publisher Mark Smylie, which captured the same award in 2005.
“I am still in a state of shock,” said a surprised Crane. “I can’t believe we beat D&D!”
Examiner.com’s Berin Kinsman reported on the upset and explained how Mouse Guard was able to take down the RPG giant. He said, “Mouse Guard is an independent production aimed at a different audience with different tastes, and it does feature innovative and original concepts that expand the horizons of the media, which surely played in to how people voted.”
