The Boy Who Made Silence @ Markosia

[ENGLISH] Winner of the coveted Xeric Grant, the debut issue of The Boy Who Made Silence was originally self-published by internationally exhibited painter and creator Joshua Hagler. The series now has a home at AAM Markosia, publisher of such titles as King Kong, Starship Troopers and indie fav Headlocked. In The Boy Who Made Silence, deaf child Nestor Gudfred inexplicably creates utter silence around him, which compels the people near him into each other’s pasts and memories. As his religious rural community looks to him as a prophet, the story follows Nestor and a diverse cast of richly imagined characters as he comes of age, falls in love, and begins a search for his father.

The series has received advance praise from many of the best talents in the industry:

« Hagler’s debut issue is an impressive start. Not only can Hagler paint, but he has the proper focus on telling the story. It’s subtle, understated work. And it’s beautifully reproduced — the colours are rich and vibrant, in a way that makes everything else l’ve read this week look washed out and cheaply printed. » — Paul O’Brien, X-Axis

« Brilliant, beautiful, original, authentic, and inspiring! One of the best comic book reading experiences I’ve had in a long time. » — David Mack, author and artist of Kabuki

« In his first work… Hagler finds his true voice. And this is just the art alone, to say nothing of the moody and reflective impressionistic story [upon which] he effortlessly floats us along… » — Sam Kieth, author and artist of The Maxx, Zero Girl, Ojo
