Nominated for numerous awards and “best-of” lists, this trade contains the conclusion of Hamlet’s quest — the Dane must now make his choice to kill or save the wizard/God Shakespeare. With a soft release in the hobby market November 9th, 2011 followed by a book trade release November 22nd, 2011 complimented by a digital release at the same time, Kill Shakespeare is perfectly positioned for fourth quarter sales.
Creators Anthony Del Col and Conor McCreery – who last month took part in the Sundance Institute’s New Frontier Story Lab – initially saw in comics a special opportunity to take the Bard’s work and reinvent his world by pairing it with the inherently kinetic nature of the medium. Established comic artist Andy Belanger (DC, Boom Studios) was the perfect choice to bring the heroes and villains of Shakespeare’s plays to life sequentially. Together the three collaborated on the first book (Kill Shakespeare Voume 1: A Sea of Troubles), which garnered recognition across the globe as the first graphic novel to be fully embraced by both die-hard Shakespeare fans and by readers who have only the barest familiarity with the works of the Bard.
Co-Creator Anthony Del Col commented, “The journey we have taken to complete this second graphic novel has itself been an adventure of Shakespearean proportions, full of mirth, joy, tears and exhilaration. I’m excited to raise the curtain on our continued twisted tale of the Bard and his characters.”
