Slave Labor Goes Webcomics

[ENGLISH] SLG Publishing will be launching a brand new section on their website dedicated to web comics at www.slgcomic.com, giving readers access to free, original web comics starting on July 24th. « SLG has always been committed to being a part of as many methods of distribution as possible, » says SLG President and Publisher Dan Vado, « starting a web comics section which would feature original content is part of helping build brand awareness for both us as a company and the individual cartoonists we publish as well. Having that content be free is key to getting new or under-appreciated artists in front more eyes and helping us to get people to buy their work. »

In order to mark this milestone, Scott Saavedra (Dr. Radium) will be creating all new original stories set in his Java Town universe.

Fans of Java Town may recall that its previous incarnation was in the form of six issues published from 1992-1996 by SLG Publishing. The actual Java Town stories featured in these six issues were « about a doomed love affair in an over-the-top coffee-centric 50s-esque world, » as Saavedra puts it. Over the course of its six issues, Java Town evolved into a pseudo magazine full of fake ads and esoteric commentary. « Java Town was a strange beast, » admits Saavedra, « each issue featured random, often coffee-focused, comic strips including a regular Java Town strip about the trials and tribulations of a coffee-loving character named Joe. Each issue would also contain odd news, strange vintage ephemera, and random tid-bits. It was very idiosyncratic–sort of a blog but on paper. »

In its new format, Java Town will be focusing strictly on the comic strip aspect that involves Joe and his coffee-loving adventures.

Java Town will debut next Thursday, July 24th at www.slgcomic.com with a four page installment, followed by an update every Wednesday.
