Thought Bubble: The Workshops

[ENGLISH] The Thought Bubble team  tells us: Hello all! The pace is picking up as we’re now about two weeks away from the festival! Due to the popularity of our workshops for adults, we’ve added new one lead by Marvel artist Adi Granov that takes place on Thursday, 13th November in the evening. Here are the details: Adi Granov’s Comic Book Cover Masterclass, Thursday 13th 6-8pm at the Carriageworks, FREE to attend if you sign up in advance For ages 18+ (This workshop is aimed at adults, however those 16+ are welcome. Please state your age when you email us).

Join Marvel artist Adi Granov, best known for his stunning work on Iron Man: Extremis and the Iron Man movie designs, and learn how he goes about creating his iconic cover images in this workshop. The Mike Carey dialogue workshop and Peter Doherty colouring workshop are now both full. All of our workshops are FREE, with the exception of the small press workshop which costs £5/£4 concession.

In this workshop Dr Simpo take you through the stages of creating your own comic book, and you will get the chance to produce the finished article at the end. The fee for the workshop will include copying facilities, pens and paper. This workshop is aimed at adults. Barry Kitson presents How to Draw Comic Books for Young People, Sunday 16th 1-2.30pm, Leeds Central Library 1st Floor Exhibition Space, FREE, ages 12 to 18

Don’t miss your chance to learn how to draw comics with the incredible Barry Kitson whose work has ranged from Amazing Spider-Man to the Legion of Superheroes. Science Superhero Masterclass with Dr Annette Taylor and Mark Wilson, Sunday 16th 2-4pm, Leeds Art Gallery Lecture Theatre,

Have you ever wondered how Spiderman can walk up walls or whether the X-men are really among us? Find out more about superpowers in this masterclass which looks at the way that science copies nature to achieve remarkable things! Dr Annette Taylor and Dr Mark Wilson from the University of Leeds lead a fascinating, interactive event where you will get a chance to peer through microscopes and even examine new technology to see how becoming a real superhero might just be possible! The Art of Storyboarding with Steve Beaumont, Sunday 16th 2.45-4.45pm Leeds Central Library 1st Floor Exhibition Space, FREE

Here’s your chance to learn about the art of storyboarding with Steve Beaumont, illustrator and storyboard artist who has worked on everything from film to video games. This workshop will focus on storyboarding rather than drawing so a basic understanding of drawing is required. This workshop is FREE and aimed at adults. Digital Colouring Masterclass for Young People with Jamie McKelvie, Sunday 16th 3-4.30pm, Leeds Central Library Computer Room,
FREE, ages 12 to 18.

The super talented Jamie McKelvie, artist on Phonogram, Suburban Glamour and X-Men: Divided We Stand, will run this digital colouring workshop for young people. Jamie will go throught the stages of how to colour line drawings in Photoshop, we recommend that you have a basic knowledge of computers to attend. This workshop is FREE and for ages 12 to 18. And don’t forget to come to the massive comic book convention at Saviles Hall by the Royal Armouries from 10am-5pm on Saturday, November 15th! Guests will be signing books, doing sketches and appearing on panels, and the hall will be full of amazing retailers and small press creators. Plus we’ll also have EA Games in attendance, with their amazing interactive booth for new videogame Dead Space!

Tickets are £6/£4.50 concession, and can be bought on the day of the event at the main desk, or online in advance (and collected on the day at the main desk).
